The Human Maturity Institute

The Availability Snapshot

A short, reflective look at your capacity to stay open — perceptually, emotionally, relationally, physically, and in your sense of who you are.

Before you begin

  • This takes about 20 minutes. It works best somewhere quiet, without needing to rush.
  • There are no right answers. This is a mirror, not a test — it's here to help you notice your own patterns, not to grade you.
  • You'll be asked to recall specific, recent moments. Real ones, even small ones, work better than general impressions of yourself.
  • Each section asks two different things: how open you tend to be, and how clearly you can see yourself closing. These are separate capacities, scored separately. Seeing your own pattern counts for something on its own.
  • Some questions ask about times you closed off or shut down. That's normal and often wise — closing isn't a failure. The snapshot looks at the pattern, not any single moment.
  • Your answers stay on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere. Your progress saves automatically as you go.
  • At the end you'll receive a full written report you can save, print, or bring to a debrief conversation.

Your Availability Snapshot

What this is measuring

Maturity, as we work with it here, is not a stage you arrive at or a set of competencies you accumulate. It is two capacities held together: availability — letting reality actually reach you, and being genuinely changed by what it brings — and participation — what you then do with what reached you.

Availability without participation is receptivity that goes nowhere. Participation without availability is activity that never learns anything. Neither half is maturity on its own.

This snapshot measures the first half. It looks at five domains where reality arrives — through what you perceive, what you feel, who you are with, what your body does, and who you take yourself to be — and asks how open each one tends to be, how clearly you can see yourself close, and how quickly you find your way back.

Staying open at all times is not the goal, and it is not maturity. Closing is sometimes accurate, protective, and wise. What this looks at is the pattern: whether closing is chosen or automatic, whether you can see it happening, and how long it takes you to return.

The shape of your availability

Your availability bloom Five petals, one per domain. Petal length shows availability; the teal inner arc shows awareness.
Petal length — availability Inner arc — awareness

A short petal with a wide arc means you can see the closing clearly even when you cannot yet change it. That is a real position, not a deficit.

Where each domain sits

Availability and awareness map Each domain plotted by awareness on the horizontal axis and availability on the vertical axis.

Moving right is worth as much as moving up. The upper right is not the only good place to be, and the lower right is where most real change begins.

Talk it through with Dr. Akasha

A snapshot can show you a pattern. It cannot tell you what the pattern is for — what it protected, what it cost, or what participation might look like from where you are actually standing. That part needs a conversation.

Dr. Akasha offers a Human Maturity Inquiry: a focused session to work through your results, test them against your own experience, and find the one place where movement is genuinely available to you right now. Bring this report with you.
